- Initial Galaxy A8s Sale Volume Increase
Launched in China on January 3rd, the Samsung Galaxy A8s has surpassed the initial response expectations and is experiencing a supply volume increase of 100,000 units to 300,000 units.
The current price for the Galaxy A8s is:
6GB+128GB: CNY 2,799 (~$410)
8GB+128GB: CNY 3,099 (~$453)
2. Estimated release of the iPad Mini 5
Mr-white on Twitter has recently leaked the back case of the supposed iPad Mini 5.
Upon investigation, we can see that the antenna design is similar to the iPad Pro 10.5 and iPad 12.9 (2nd Gen). There are many features that can also be found on the predecessor iPad Mini 4, such as the 3.5mm earphone jack, Lightning port, volume key, speaker holes, and more.
The iPad Mini 5 is rumored to be released in the first half of 2019.
3. Apple iPhone XS / XS Max cuts production by 10%
Apple has notified suppliers of parts and assembly to cut production of iPhone XS / XS Max devices in the first three months of 2019 by 10% of its original design.
Although Apple has revised its expected sales due to sluggish iPhone sales in China, this lowered production of iPhones is expected to negatively impact the economy in Asia and Europe as many of the suppliers originate from those locations.
4. Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Promotional Poster Leaked
The recent promotion poster for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 has been leaked to the public.
Xiaomi has announced their plans to divide its smartphones into three separate brands: Mi / Redmi / Foco
Redmi’s brand introduction even will be held on January 10th, where the Redmi Note 7 is expected to be released.
Available colors are Black / Blue / Red.
The Blue and Red will be available as a gradation shade.
5. Xiaomi achieves worldwide sales of over 100 million units of Power Banks
Xiaomi has sold more than 100 million portable power banks worldwide. Their best seller is the Mi Power Bank 2C 20,000mAH.
Their newest product Mi Power Bank 3 is scheduled for release on January 11th.
6. Sharp launches Aquos Zero in Taiwan
January 15, 2019, Sharp releases their Aquos Zero in Taiwan.
Configurations are as followed: 6.5-inch WQHD + Sharp OLED / Snapdragon 845 / 6GB RAM / 128GB Rom.
It will be released in a Meteorite Black color for NT 19,990 (~$648).
7. Garmin introduces Vivoactive 3 Music LTE
Smartwatch maker Garmin has released an LTE version of the Vivoactive 3 Music.
This upgraded model will support LTE networks, even in existing products.
Currently, there is no set starting price. The standard version is on sale for $300.
8. Sony PlayStation 4 Worldwide sales exceed 91.6 million units
On January 7th, Sony announced the cumulative sale of the PlayStation 4 (PS4) to be 91.6 million units.
This number includes all versions of the console since it’s release in 2013.
During the 2018 Holiday season (Nov 18 – Dec 31), roughly 5.6 million units were sold worldwide.
As the next generation PlayStation 5 is expected to be released during the year 2020, current estimations for sales of this console is expected to reach over 100 million units.
The accessory market for gaming consoles are also diverse thanks to the longer life cycle compared to annually updated smartphones.
These sales are largely generated in Japan and the US.
