1. Samsung introduces Fingerprint on Display for Galaxy A series
Next year, Samsung plans to introduce the Fingerprint on Display (FOD) function for half of the planned Galaxy A series releases.
This feature was confirmed from the Galaxy S8 model and will debut on the Galaxy S10, set to release early 2019.
The Galaxy S10 FOD sensor will incorporate Qualcomm’s ultrasonic mechanism, however, the Galaxy A series will be using the EZ-Tech Optic FOD. The other half of the Galaxy A series that will not be using this technology will have a fingerprint sensor on the back or side.
The release of the new Galaxy A series is expected to be before or after the Mobile World Congress.
2. Samsung Galaxy M30 Rendered Images revealed
Geekbench has divulged images and information for the Galaxy M30.
The model number for this device is SM-M305F and is confirmed to be supplied with Exynos 7885 / 4GB RAM.
3. Samsung Electronics to launch Galaxy A8s in Korea
The WiFi authentication for Samsung’s Galaxy A8s has been confirmed for a domestic release in South Korea.
The detailed model number for this device is SM-G887N. The certification for this release was completed on December 21st.
The Galaxy A8s is expected to be hitting stores in Korea as early as January or as late as February.
4. Google Pixel 3 hits worst record of sales
Data analysis company Veriluma has leaked internal Google data reports, including information on the sales of the Google Pixel 3 / 3XL from October 18th to December 18th.
According to these reports, less than 400,000 units were sold during this time period, indicating an all-time low for Google Pixel sales.
5. Huawei, surpassing records with 200 million sales
Due to the great success of the P20, Honor 10 and Mate 20 series, Huawei has announced that they have set a new company record of 200 million smartphone sold this year.
Huawei is recorded to have sold 3 million units in 2010 and 153 million units in 2017. With these numbers, Huawei has successfully outperformed Apple this year and has become the world’s second-largest smartphone manufacturer.
Although several issues with device security have not been properly addressed in the US, sales in China and Europe have excelled. According to Huawei, more than 500 million people in 170 countries currently own Huawei phones.
6. Apple to launch iPad Mini 5 in 2019
According to China Times, Apple is scheduled to release the iPad Mini 5 in early 2019. Mass production is expected to begin in December.
7. Xiaomi introduces Mi Play
Xiaomi has presented the Mi Play, a budget-friendly product targeted at university students in China.
We believed the Pocophone F1 would be the rebrand in China, but it appears Xiaomi has turned around those expectations.
This product is available in three colors: Blue / Red / Black
Hardware: 5.84-inch FHD+ / MediaTek Helio P35 / 4GB RAM / 64GB ROM
The retail price is CNY 1,099 (~$159) and Xiaomi is giving 10GB of data every month for users.
The Mi Play is sold in China only.
